Tues Sept 4 council meeting: Reception & resolution for Barb Matthews, 36 Phila demolition, and more

The Takoma Park City Council’s first post-recess meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, September 4, starting at 7:30 pm. Before the meeting —

6:45 – 7:25 p.m., the public is invited to stop by the Community Center Atrium for a reception and opportunity to say farewell and best wishes to Barbara Matthews who will be leaving Takoma Park
for Rockville. Her last day with the City is Friday, September 7.

During the meeting, the City Council is scheduled to adopt a resolution recognizing Barb for her eight-years of service to the City. The council will also award a contract to the Mercer Group, for executive-search services, to help us replace Barb. The city used Mercer in 2004 when we hired Barb, and subsequently to hire former Police Chief Ron Ricucci and currently to find a new police chief.

(Expect a new police chief to be announced very soon.)

Tuesday evening, the council will also vote on a contract for demolition of the abandoned, severely deteriorated house at 36 Philadelphia Avenue.

There will be opportunity for public comment on the resolutions recognizing Barb and awarding contracts. The agenda packet is online.

The agenda also includes a couple of presentations —

  • Region Forward Update (Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments)
  • Emergency Preparedness Committee Report

Looking ahead: The council expects to appoint members of a City Manager Selection Committee at its Monday evening, September 10, 2012 meeting. The application deadline is September 4. Regarding Takoma Junction, slated for September 18, we have a report on the food-truck pilot and contract authorizations for environmental analysis, geotechnical soil testing, and appraisal of the city-owned lot.

As always, please get in touch with any city-related questions, concerns, and requests.
