“I oppose community center atrium-project architectural-services funding”

Another letter to the city council, this one lamenting a poor use of city funds, and in particular the misallocation of federal ARPA funds that should be put to uses that directly benefit struggling residents…

Mayor, Council Members,

I oppose the Single Reading Ordinance Authorizing a Contract for Architectural Services for the Community Center Renovation Project that is on this evening’s city council agenda (https://documents.takomaparkmd.gov/government/city-council/agendas/2022/council-20220525-2.pdf).

I believe that putting a floor across the community center atrium to create police department space is not a best use of city funds. Further, the plan to spend $1 million in federal ARPA money on construction is a misallocation of funds that should be put to uses that directly benefit struggling residents. Let’s not take the next step — to be voted by the council this evening — of authorizing $72,550 for architectural services. Please vote against this ordinance.

Thanks,

Seth Grimes
